The 2012 New England Men’s 45 Team took it’s 4th ACC Team Championship in the last 7 years…ending a drought of no titles since the Atlantic Coast Cup’s inception. The competition was held in Washington, DC and despite the travel, Team NE did it the hard way… they earned
it. In it’s first match against the defending champs Middle States team, the match was tied 3-3 and came down to the #1 singles match. NE #1 David MacBurnie was two points away from defeat, came back from a break down in the second set forcing a tie breaker which he won and then won the 3rd set convincingly over Jim Cort (top 5 national player) to seal the victory for the boys from NE. Team NE’s next opponent was the host Mid Atlantic States team and came back from a 3-1 deficit to sweep all the doubles and another close 4-3 victory. With that confidence, NE came back the next day and crushed it’s rivals from the Eastern States 7-0 to secure the cup once again!
